P52 : 2010 : Week 38

Sept. 30th, 2010

Almost everyday we go outside to play. In the summer, we're in the pool. But for the past month or so, it's shifted back out to the front yard. The bikes, the golf cart, the scooters, the skateboards and the neighbor kids all come out to play. Lately, the favorite game to play is "accident" - LOL! Matthew will usually drive his Gator around, "crash" somewhere, and then fall out of it, "hurt". The "Rescue Squad" (Ryan and the other kids) come to the rescue, complete with video conference calls (the other kids phones - no, Ryan doesn't have one yet), and emergency care, with "crash carts". Kinda of funny and definately cute!

Matthew - you are currently loving for Daddy to flip you upside down in the pool! You hold your nose, float up so you are "sitting" in the water and then he flips you up in the air and upside down! You come up giggling!!!!

In true Matthew fashion, you got Student of the Week this week at school! You had one bad day the week before when all you did was tell them "no" for everything they asked of you that day. But then you have been a rockstar since then and earned this for "being a good listener"! Rock on, Dude!

We have started to play out front again after school, right before dinner again. The light was yummy and I managed to get you both to stop for a few pictures.

1st week of school and we missed the 1st day. We were out front on the 10th. You went to get on your bike and toppled right over. 2 ER trips, 5 stitches, 1 dermabond glue, 1 prescription for antiboitics later. You ended up pulling all of the stitches out w/i 2 days.

You pulled out this marker art to work on today. You sat down and colored in the whole thing. Did pretty well with it too! Stayed in the lines, and for the most part, followed the box to use the right colors.

San Diego! We took a 4 day trip to San Diego on this week. It was so nice to get out of the heat and play at the beach and we had a great time! We took Matthew to Sea World to see Shamu and spent 12 hours there!

San Diego - Day 2

On Day 2 - we went to Sea World to see Shamu! We had promised Matthew to take him to see Shamu if he stopped picking at the sore on his forehead. After 7 months (since Nov!), it finally healed (he left it alone long enough!) in June.

Since I'd taken my big camera with me in Jan. - I took the point & shoot with me this time. I wanted to be in the middle of it all this time! LOL!

Tall enough to ride the rides!!!!

Beluga Whales

Outside the penguins..

Waiting for Shamu!!!!!

Here he'd just seen Shamu for the 1st time in the pens behind the stage!

Ryan and I waiting in line at the Atlantis ride...

Michael and I were so very proud of Matthew!!!! He wanted to ride the ShipWreck Rapids ride. We weren't sure if he was going to make it waiting through the whole line, but we thought we'd try. We ended up waiting in line for 1.5 hours and he did SOOOOO good the whole time! Here we are waiting in line...
I wish I'd taken a photo of us on the ride, but I was so afraid the camera would get wet!

Here we were waiting for the Cirque de la Mer show...

Petting the Sting Rays

They had this awesome Seasame Street play area that Matthew just LOVED!

On the Bayside Skyride...

Waiting for the Sea Lions Live show...

Long day - we were there for 12 hours! Had so much fun though!

San Diego - Day 1

Back in July, we took a trip to San Diego. We haven't been on an actual vacation in some time and it was nice to relax on the beach! We left on a Sunday, checked into the hotel when we got there and then went straight to Mission Beach! Here's photos from that 1st day...

Matthew asked to have his photo taken with this pelican! LOL! And then I made all 3 of them get in the photo (above)!

The final Songbird Avenue kit - September 2010 - "Everyday Moments

Journaling reads: I remember running in elementary school and loving it. But somewhere between then and now, that love disappeared. I remember seeing the “runners” at high school and thinking they were crazy for running that far. I so just didn’t get it.... Life happened - college, working, getting married, having kids. Suddenly, I’m in my 40’s, not in shape, overweight and finding myself thinking of running. In January of 2010, I decided to take charge. I wanted to run. I wanted to get healthier, to be fitter and hopefully to lose some weight. So I bought some new shoes, a Nike+ with sportband and hit the road with the “Couch to 5K” program loaded on my cell phone. The program was easy to follow, but the training was tough. But I stuck with it. I got up early - some mornings as early as 4:30am - to get my runs in. I set a goal of running the Pat Tilman 4.2 in April. And I trained some more. Somewhere along the way - I found myself looking forward to my runs, enjoying that time to myself, the pride of doing the run, and missing it on the days off. April and Pat’s Run came and went. I’d done it, I’d made it, and I finally felt like a runner! And then the next thought was, 10K? 6.2 miles? I’ve done 4.2 - I can do 6.2! But not until fall when it cools off! So - I’ve trained all summer - ran 50 miles in the month of June, - only to have a possible stress fracture sideline me for right now. And I miss it. I really miss it. I miss running. Who knew? I’m really anxious to run again - nothing else is giving me that sense of accomplishment that running does, not the elliptical, not the biking and not fitness programs. Running just does it for me.
I can’t wait to go again...
