2006 Sharing Down Syndrome Buddy Walk

a quick post with some photos straight out of the camera for Darla to see!

Matthew was beside himself the whole day for Barney and Baby Bop were there! He kept walking around asking for them and then when he found them, we had to pry him away!

These are friends of ours that came to walk with us this year (hope you don't mind that I posted this!). They lived across the street from us at our last house and we just love them!

A small sampling of the size of the event.

When we came to the end - the Phoenix Suns Gorilla Mascot was there and he took Matthew right out of Michael's arms (and Matthew WENT!) and danced with him! So cute!

Ryan got to participate in a baseball clinic - Learn to Play the Diamondbacks Way! He did really good!

They both got a t-shirt, wristbands, a hat and a lunch bag for being there!

Matthew wanted to do this - BAD! He kept saying "me, me" and running over to it. They had to be at least 45 pounds, so maybe next year...
We had such a fabulous time! Matthew was quite the handfull, running everywhere! We didn't take the stroller for the 1st year, just carried the camera bag. I was so loaded down with things - t-shirts, DBack things, prizes from the little carnival - by the time we left, it was funny! It was a really nice day today - breezy, but getting a little warm by the time we left.
All right - off to spend the rest of the day with my family, since Michael is off!! :)

Where in the world is...

Michelle at??? LOL! Busy as usual... I have 1/2 hour before Ry comes home, so hopefully Blogger will co-operate.

Ryan did make his goal of getting 100 on his spelling test - 3 times now I think! I think he's going to get another one today! We've gone to a getting 100's on 5 things and then get a prize. I made little strips of paper that have the prizes on them, he gets to pull out one and then he gets one "Deal or no Deal" moment to see if he wants that one or one more shot at it. But then he has to keep the next prize - no argueing! He got a mini etch a sketch the 1st time. There are $1's (curtisy of his aunt and cousin - thanks again!), a hat, a pen, a notebook and such in the prize bucket. Hopefully he will continue to think it's cool! He is just growing like crazy and is doing so well really! He had a very good report card and seems to be well liked by his teachers! We just have to work on his reading and his math a bit. I'm having a horrible time getting good photos out of him. He totally doesn't want to sit still and smile nice for any of them...

Matthew is doing well also. He was sick 2 weekends ago - had some form of something. I thought it was croup, but it didn't seem quite the same. He had a doc appointment on the Monday after to have his ears checked, so I had her listen to him then. They went ahead and gave him a steroid shot and things didn't get any worse. He has had his hearing tested. They say he has some very mild hearing loss - he can hear the very low quiet tones. It doesn't help that he gets in the room and totally remembers what's going to happen and anticipate the animals moving. He gets so busy, that I think he's just not paying attention and doesn't hear them. But we'll see. He needs to have his eyes checked still. The school thinks he has a stigmatism (sp?). So I've got to find an eye doc that will take both insurances. Thought I might have time to do it today, but not so far... He's doing really well in school also. Passed all his goals and they are setting up new ones for him for his IEP. Meet alot of his goals with alot of the therapists too - so new goals there too. He's speaking sooooo very well!

Michael - he's been home all week this week! Went back to work today. He'll have off tomorrow for the Buddy Walk and then have to go back Sun and Mon. They still haven't let him know about the new shift he's requested. It seems that they are going to move him, but no official confirmation yet...

Me - fell like I'm running around everywhere. It's not that bad, I'm sure, but just seems so busy. Today is the 1st time I've had a nice long stretch at the computer, and it's only been for a few hours. Had to go to the store this morning. Have worked in both boys rooms, worked for Diane, went to appointments, teachers conferences, etc, etc. Just seems really busy right now. I really stay off the computer alot when Michael's home. Lately we've been really busy when he's home anyway. But then I feel like it's been week's since I've done a layout or anything. Not really, but it feels that way... I remember feeling this way at the Holiday season last year too, just so busy. Michael works late tonight, so hopefully I'll be able to get some things done.

We took all these photos at the pumpkin patch last night. Have lots of great photos from the SDSA Playgroup a few weekends ago. They had a petting zoo there! So cute and so much fun! Will have lots of new photos from the Buddy Walk tomorrow, I'm sure! I need to send a huge shout out to Lisa, Jenn, Dorothy and Joe, and Shawn and Barb for helping us reach out BW goals!!! You guys rock - seriously! Thank you guys soooooo very much! Shawn and Barb and their 4 girls are going to come walk with us too - very cool!
Well - I know there is way more to update, but a - I can't remember what and b - it's time to get Ryan from the bus!
Talk to you soon! :)

!@#$%%^&***&^%$%!!!!!

I just had a new post FINISHED and blogger flaked on me. Fiddle!!!! Now - of course - I don't have time to retype everything. So - here's the few layouts I've managed to get done since last post!

Layout based on Basic Sketch by Amy Howe for the Basic Grey newsletter.

When we went to the library last weekend, all you wanted to check out were books on magic tricks. So, we did! Then you went to school on Monday, and the Book Fair was
going on. Low and behold - there was a Magic Kit there for sale too. But it was this little tiny kit and it was eight bucks. Mommy said you could pick out something else. You bothered us all week about that kit, begging for it. On Thursday night, Mommy and Daddy said enough. But we told you to get out your library books that you had been reading this week and try on of the tricks in it. The Amazing Ryan performed for us and acutally picked up a piece of ice with a piece of string! And all without an 8 buck Magic Kit!

Journaling reads: Having lived in Arizona for over 10 years now, I find myself longing every October for fall weather. The real fall. The one with crisp, frosty mornings, pumpkins that can be craved at least a week before Halloween, and leaves - glorious, beautiful, colorful fall leaves! Out of all the seasons that are not quite the same here in Arizona, fall is the one I miss the most...

tagged...

I put off posting this and consequently, have been tagged so many times with this one, that I've forgotten by who and how many - LOL! I'm having a hard time coming up with things, not because I'm not weird, I just suck at remembering what they are - ROFL!

List 5 Weird things about yourself or your pets.

  1. I like to sleep with some sort of cover over me. I can have a leg or wahtever sticking out, but at least the sheet has to be over my middle!
  2. My cat has our whole bedtime routine down. He waits till I'm in bed then jumps up, goes to my right side and snuggles up. He stays there until we turn off the TV, then he jumps down and goes somewhere to sleep for the night.
  3. My husband can eat breakfast for any meal of the day. I would rather have lunch/dinner for any meal of the day. We like to go to "dinner" type places that he can get breakfast and I can get lunch - yes even at breakfast! Give me a lunch/dinner anytime!
  4. I think my cat thinks he's a dog sometimes. He was born in our house and grew up with our dogs and I think it rubbed off. He likes his tummy rubbed, he lays on his back sometimes.
  5. Simba (yes, the cat) has 1 lone white hair on his chin. It is longer than the other hairs and it pure white on his black body! Very funny!
Well - on to the last 2 week's Chick's Life layouts!

Journaling reads: Wow, September has been a busy month. Matthew has stayed dry at night now with no accidents. He also finally learned how to peddle his tricycle this month. They studied pets at his school, had a pet show night (he won a blue ribbon for his prize bunny, Ryan's Carrot) and had a field trip to PetsMart. Ryan made a deal with Mommy and Daddy that if he got a 100% on his spelling test, he could go rent a game from Blockbuster. It took him till the 3rd week, but then he got them all right at the pre-test on Wed! Go Ryan! He also made Student Council at school and has had 2 meetings where they talked about getting t-shirts made. Daddy worked alot and went to school here in Phoenix for his work. Mommy worked on making her photos better and learned more about her camera. The temperatures were fairly nice most of the month - the searing heat is gone - and we are once again playing out front each night. Matthew loves driving the FP truck around! The mosquitoes have had a hey-day with Mommy's legs though!

Journaling reads: Could I live without you - Michael? Could I live without you by my side, supporting me, talking to me, holding me , loving me? You are my husband, my rock, my strength, my life, my love. And I wouldn't have you any other way.

Could I live without you - Ryan? Could I life without your talking, your endless questions, your not listening? You are my first born, my son who's growing up way too fast, my sweet, sensitive one, my love, my life. And I wouldn't have you any other way.

Could I live without you - Matthew? Could I live without your limited eating? Your running away from me? All the stress that comes from having a child with special needs? You are my baby, my sweetie pie, where my smile comes from every day, my life, my love. And I wouldn't have you any other way...

As a fun note - The DigiChick CT and The Sweet Shoppe Designs Sugar Babes have challenged each other to see who can make the most layouts out of TDC/SSD Collaberatvie Kit - A Common Bond (that I used in the layout above) that benefits Breast Cancer Research! Kind of a fun contest! You can watch the action here in the gallery! So far the Chicks are kcicking but, but I'm sure the Babes will catch up! LOL! Kinda of an interesting stretch for me since this is a fairly feminine kit and we all know I don't have many feminine subjects to scrap. Let alone scrap time lately - LOL! But it's fun! Luckily, it's a huge kit with lots of goodies in it and has lots of greens too. And for a great cause! You can see the kit in the Boutique here.

Well - off I go. Ryan has made a Halloween Shop in the playroom and is dying for me to come shop. I need to shower and read the paper still too - LOL!
See ya!

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

This month will be forever etched in my mind with Matthew. For, you see, we found out that Matthew would have down syndrome 5 years ago this month. I did a layout on it last year and you can see it here. Now, with the Buddy Walks and DS Awareness Month, this month means that much more to me. I'm sure I will blog about this more, but right now, I've got to post this and get going! LOL!
I have registered for both of the Buddy Walks that we have the pleasure to attend each year. Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona and DSNetwork have both meant so much to our family. They have become a group of people that share this wonderful journey with us, some before us and some after. They are people we can turn to when we need help, when we have questions and when we just want to have fun with our family! Both groups have exciting things in store that this money will help to bring to realization!
So, if you want to come join our family, or help make a donation in Matthew's name, you can go here for SDSA's page and here for DSNetwork's page! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! And don't forget to check out all the other cute kids while you are there! :)

My Matthew Monster

Journaling reads: You have been having the best time putting on your Halloween costume from last year lately! Mommy hadn't put it completely away yet. You put it on and the run around the house saying "rrrrrrrrar!"! Way too cute!

***edited***
I forgot to say this - This layout was done with "A Common Bond" Collaberative Kit by The DigiChick Designers and the Sweet Shoppe Design Designers. It's a fundraiser kit for Breast Cancer research for Breast Cancer Awareness Month that is available now at both shops. A nice, big, gorgeous, yummy kit... full of very girly colors! LOL! I was very proud of myself to have pulled off a boy layout, let alone a Halloween-ish layout with this kit! Quite fun, if I do say so myself!

Sorry...

Had a thought tonight and had to change my header again.
It's Down Syndrome Awareness Month, ya know! :)

Woo - it's October!

We decorated today - both the blog and the house. I still need to put out some of the stuff outside, but I wasn't going to get it done with both boys running around! Will do it when Michael's home.
I have been tagged twice by 2 different people with the same tag, but I'm a lame-o right now and can't think of anything, so will keep it for soon...
Scrapping news! I made Michelle Pearson's Photo Actions Team! What great fun! It's like Christmas right now - so many fun things for me to play with with her stuff! So cool! I used her actions on the photo in the header of Ryan. And yes, it's a photo from last year. No new real pumpkins at our house yet...
New prompt for Chick's Life this week. You can see the gallery here and the prompt here. Heather Roselli generously donated 2 of her calendars for me to give away, so we are giving away chances to win it along with getting her cute mini kits for the next 3 months! You can see the details on that here.
Rebecca is hard at work on the Gifts site. Really cool! If you click on the Photo Montage link and watch it - you will see the photo of Matthew that will be included in the book. When the sites done fully and the book is ready, I will be posting a big old post on it@ :)

Wow - I'm really behind on showing layouts, so I'm going to give you a bunch and then go to bed! :)

Journaling reads: You have been having sooooo much fun with this old truck of Ryan's. It's almost 6 years old and is not running as well as it should, but you have a blast driving it around in front of the house! You have really begun to drive it with purpose and not run into too many things. You love to pretend you are going to run us over, only to have us jump out of the way at the last second!

Journaling reads: What is it about your big baby blues, Matthew? I feel like I am forever trying to capture them in photos! They are just so gorgeous! I think I got them in this photo. Even with the dirt on your face & the bruise on your forehead, your eyes just mesmerize me!

All items from "Indian Summer DeZine Collaborative Kit" by the DigiChick Designers; fonts are Jenn Olson, Futura XBlk BT and Futura Lt BT.
Journaling reads: Daddy came home from work saying that we could get online and get free tickets to tour the new Cardinal's Stadium this weekend! How fun! So we got tickets for Sunday at noon and drove the 45 minutes over to there. It's HUGE! We were able to walk around on all the levels except the bottom one. They had a Big Boys and Their Toys convention down there, as you can see! They didn't open the roof or bring the grass in like we had hoped, but it was still an amazing thing to see and walk around in. Now we can't wait till we can go see an actual game! :)

Ok - it's bed time! :)
