I was able to get a couple layouts done this week. Here they are. Crowded, but they have what I want on them.
Journaling reads: The higher the grade, the more school supplies you need, I'm finding out! While Matthew was able to use things that we had, Ryan needed new shoes, backpack, ruler, pencils, erasers and crayons. We were able to re-use some of his stuff from last year, like lunch boxes.
Electric Scraps Primarily Educational Kit, tag - Digital Scrapbook Place tag set, brad - Shabby Princess Boy Dirt
Journaling reads:The 1st day of school came with lots of hugs! Ryan rode the bus to and from school the 1st day this year. Matthew got dropped off by both Mommy & Daddy. It was so cute to see Matthew run to Ryan when he got off the bus! Mommy and Daddy got to go out for a nice quiet breakfast that morning!
I love how I did the photo at the top in this layout. I ghosted it back and then put the 3 of them back in in full strength. It adds to the crowdedness, but I like it!
DDE's Monkey Business Papers & brad and Wallflower Kit for Alpha and tag
The light was good this afternoon and I tried to get them to co-operate. They both had too much energy to sit too still! I'm still messing with the settings on the camera and still don't have it quite right, but I'm learning. Got a couple other good shots too, and will try to post on Thursday.
Matthew had some one-on-one time with the new speech therapist at school today. She concerned with how his mouth is always open and wants him to see an Ear/Nose/Thoart Specialist. She thinks his tonsils are enlarged and that he may have tongue thrust. Matthew's previous ST had talked about alot of this, but with the old insurance, we had to have a referal from the doc to go see one. And he just brushed it off and said Matthew was fine and didn't need to go. So, it never happened. Now, I'm upset, because I should have pushed it! She asked if he snored, which he does. We've noticed drooling, but have always thought there was a reason for it(teething was usually happening when it was brought up). He has always stuck his tongue out when he drinks and we've been doing some stuff to try to correct that. So, now, since my mood is already shaky today, I feel really guilty about what we should have done for him! Great!
$9.15 - the amount spent on cholrine for the pool that's turning green again because IT"S HOT again.
$27.24 - the amount spent at the grocery store this morning when I went in to only buy 4 gatorades for my wonderful hubby so he doesn't pass out on flight line.
$19.25 - the amount I saved with my grocery card so it wasn't almost double the above amount.
$2.679 - the price per gallon of gas right now (where does the 9 come from anyway???)
$38.15 - the amount spent to fill my tank
111 - the tempature for today (yuck!) (how does Michael stand to work outside???)
1 - the number of little boys that are too exhausted to make it home from school. Especially since he woke up at 6:15 again today! :)
Oh - and I forgot...
3 - the number of broken and not-working-so-good TV's that are currently in my garage
$259 - the price of the new TV that we bought this weekend to replace broken TV
1 - twin mattress set and frame in said garage
1 - mommy van that doesnn't fit into garage at the moment because of all the above cr*p! In the 111 degree heat no less.
So I've been tagged by Andie days ago and I've put it off! Tried to come up with something that might stump my family and BF, but can't come up with anything.
So here are 5 RANDOM things about me! :)
1. My 1st job was at Wendy's. And yes, it was during the "Where's the Beef?" Campaign.
2. I got married in a denim skirt, fleece jacket and cowboy boots. We eloped (only the couple that stood up with us knew). We were going to just not tell anyone and have the big wedding later, but during the weekend, we decided it was done and that was that! Michael's parents were shocked & my mom had a funny feeling about it. And yes, Andie, we got married in TX! :)
3. On the same note, we knew each other about 6 months when we got engaged and were married 2 months later. About 4 months later, Michael was shipped off to Korea for a year (he was in the USAF). We've now been married for 10 years! Sometimes you just know!
4. I was in the flag corp in high school. I was even captain my senior year.
5. When I was in Junior High, I helped keep the records for the football team. We jockingly told the coach that we should get letters for doing it... And he did. So I lettered in Football!
So now I get to tag someone! So Moriah, you're it!
Rambling mommy thoughts ahead.
I was flipping channels last night, and landed on TLC. It was a program on this beautiful little 2 year old girl. She has Treacher Collins syndrome and basically has no upper jaw, no cheekbones, no eye sockets, and has the corner of her ear missing. They were having her go thru another surgery to try to create a jaw for her so that she could do the basic necessity of eating. It was so heartening and difficult at the same time, to watch what she and her parents are going thru. It was sooo moving to see how much love there was, even though things were not easy. It made me want to go scoop up both my boys and hold them while they slept.
And then today I read Tara's post about her beautiful daughter, McKenna, and that what they've gone thru is still resurfacing.
And I know Moriah's gorgeous son, Alex has his own struggles too.
I have such a hard time with this sometimes. I know that God has a plan for everything, but sometimes I don't understand why it's the little ones that suffer so. I know that good comes from it, but it's a hard thing to see. I truely feel that Matthew was given to us to help others to understand about Down Syndrome. He's such a sweetheart and so loving, that people can't help by smile at him.
And then there's all the destruction that Katrina as done today. All the people that will be rebuilding their lives today.
For some reason, this is all weighing heavy on my heart today. It's just so hard to understand why God lets things happen the way they do sometimes.
This is all a part of me too. I can't watch shows that like without being deeply affected by what I've seen. I saw a program 2 years ago that was on orphans in other countries and the things they faced and had the same saddness after. I wanted to go get each and everyone of them and bring them home with me. I know if Mathew had been born in another country that his life would be vastly different than the life he leads with us. We have witnessed it 1st hand. A family we know adopted a son from Russia. He has DS and his parents gave him up to come live in America so he could LIVE! He would have been locked inside their walls in Russia. His mom has come to America twice to visit him and they call each other often too. I had the pleasure of meeting her at last year's Buddy Walk. Such a strong woman. She was so happy to be there for our party to celebrate our kids!
And that makes me so grateful that each of these beautiful kids were born here. They are taken care of and loved endlessly right here by us. There is pretty much nothing that we wouldn't do for them and they have so many options for their lives here. Somewhere else, having what they do would be a death sentence for them, if not physically, then their souls for sure.
So I don't understand fully the why's to all of this and I don't always understand what we're supposed to learn from the why's. Tolerance is the best Why that I can come up with. Like Oprah says - every person has a story. And every person belongs and their lives have meaning.
So - I just need to get some of this off my chest today... Shed some of it before the boys come home.
4 - days of not feeling well
3.74 - dollars spent on cranberry juice
128 - ozs of said juice
20 - hours in which I have drank all of the juice
1000 - times that I must have been to the bathroom since Friday (sorry!)
1 - hour spent in Urgent Care Office
1 - cup to fill (again - sorry!)
10 - minutes actually seeing the doctor
100 - dollars later out of the office (what the ?????)
1 - prescription for antiboitics to cure bladder infection
14 - pills to take
7 - days to take them
20 - minutes waiting for prescription
9.49 - cost for pills
Feeling better - PRICELESS!
Found out that our insurance doesn't kick in until Sept. 1 - so to Urgent Care I went! I'm feeling quite better already. Although our bank account is not happy! LOL!!
Poor Old Pete - once again, just amazed at the turn things can take over the internet. I've seen it happen at other message boards on the internet, and it always makes me a little queasy how things can be taken so wrong so quickly. I've heard it been said how things can be taken so out of context because it's written over the internet and not said face to face. I sure witnessed that in the last 24+ hours! If I offended anyone, I apologize. I, too, am the kind of person that likes to lighten things up by trying to interject some humor! But what we thought as funny (and still do) was taken out of context and got out of hand. Soooo, may Pete Rest in Peace! But don't forget his freebie! :) I know there's a lot of you out there that are scratching your heads and wondering what the heck? Sorry! Now how about that cost of gas?... $2.50 a gallon here...
First - a cute pic. This was taken Monday afternoon. He was so cute trying to put his piggies into the hose. Can you see his owie on his piggy toe??? He's gonna lose his toenail.
As life would have it... we got our new insurance cards in the mail on Friday, and by Friday mid-afternoon, I wasn't feeling well. Go figure. I think I have a bladder infection. Weird on Friday, wasn't too bad Saturday. Today, I hurt! So will have to make an appointment tomorrow. Been drinking water like crazy and cranberry juice as of today.
Mom and Dad made it back to AZ. They've been gone for 1 1/2 to a family reunion and to visit my Grandmother.
Totally didn't get as much done today as I wanted to. Still have 3 loads of laundry and didn't mop and vaccum yet.
There's this cute thing that got started around the dinner table at night that I want to remember. I'm not sure how it started... but Matthew wants to hold Daddy's and Mommy's hands and then we have to hold Ryan's. Like a little prayer circle. We hold for a second and then do a "break" like in a sports circle. Cute most of the time. Tonight it was just he and I at the table and he looked so puzzled on what to do. So I held both of his hands in mine and we did the "break"! The grin on his face was just so sweet after!
Why do spammers have to target blogs and websites??? I put my blog "public" so that other bloggers could see mine when I left comments, but I've had at least 4 spammers since then that I've had to delete. (At least I found out how to do this and learned something new) So, obviously, I changed that back! I've started sweeping Diane's website now too for the same thing. It's just like the hackers... don't they have anything better to do???And on somewhat of the same note - it always amazes me how a group of women can turn ugly at the drop of a hat. The 2 scrapbook message boards that I go have people that get turned on so quickly for so many things. The crop at 2P's got ragged on. Tonight it happened at DigiChick and it just makes me sad. Don't get me wrong... I am just as guilty of hunting out the freebies as the next person, but come ooooonnnnnn people... geez! Let's not get nasty about something that's being generously given for free. You're still getting it, just not tonight!
So after we came back from Pinetop in July, I was sitting in the chair watching TV one night. I heard the (now) kitty door. Then it dawned on me that Simba was sitting on the floor next to me and it wasn't him that came through the door. I look over to see this white kitty froze with this "Uh Oh, they're home!" look on it's face. Now - Simba's mom and siblings were all white. We've seen him outside pal-ing around with this cat, and they must have decided to have a kitty party while we were gone. But now this kitty has been coming in almost every night lately and helping itself to Simba's kitty food. I just now chased it out. I feel soooo bad, but I'm not sure if we want this kitty to make itself at home. No collar - so can't tell if it's a stray.
The nap debate continues. Matthew's been falling asleep at some point everday. He's been waking up at 6 to 6:15 every morning lately too. Most days the nap is for 10-20 minutes and I get him awake. Today I let him sleep. Close to 2 hours. Then he didn't get to sleep until 9:45. We'll see if he sleeps til 7am.
Yesterday afternoon, our power went out. It went out, flickered back on, only to go out again. Thank god it came back on because it was already almost 83 degrees in here. And I had every blind in the house shut. We couldn't get the van out of the garage w/o power either. We had the truck if we HAD to go somewhere. 45 minutes to an hour, it came back on. The big screen tv did not. Michael took it apart this morning and tried changing the fuse, but it didn't work. It's 5 y/o. This happened after we'd had it about 1 1/2 years and we had to pay 1/2 the cost of the tv to fix it. So not too sure what we're going to do this time. See if we can get it fixed, or buy a new one. Of course, both boys are having issues with sharing the tv in the playroom. The one in our bedroom doesn't have a VCR hooked up to it and suddenly Ryan is wanting to watch videos too. So it's been interesting today. They were pretty good about it. Needless to say, I haven't watched anything til Extreme Home Makeover came on, because Ryan likes it too!
The first week of school went pretty well. Both boys are very tired.
Michael is tired too. He still has tomorrow to work, then he has 3 days off. He will work next weekend, and then we think, have 1 day off and switch to weekdays. Then he has another school scheduled after which he's going to have to go into work. That's gonna make for long days. We are trying to get the side yard cleaned up. The weeds ran amuck and it's been too hot to got out there. So we're slowly trying to work on it. Not to mention the pool, and grass and now the TV to work on! :) Poor Daddy!
I have this week, and then I'm going to start volunteering in the boy's classrooms on Thursdays. Should be fun. I look forward to getting to know Ryan's teacher a little better.
Alright - I think that's enough long winded randomness for today! No spammers, please!
I will leave you with this... The mysterious plant growth in the fish tank multiplies! I think I'm going to have to weed some of it out eventually!
I was watching Matthew at the dinner table tonight. He was totally copying what Ryan did. Ryan would pick up his cup to drink and Matthew quickly picked up his and drank. Then again in the bath tub. Moving to sit beside Ryan when he turned sideways in the tub. So cute! It won't be cute if he copies some other things that Ryan does...
For a challenge at DigiChick.
Journaling reads: We got to meet Ryan's new teacher and see Matthew's old teacher on August 11th. It was the Thursday before school started the following Monday. Ryan's 2nd Grade teacher is Mrs. Michael's. It's an easy name for him to remember! He was very excited to learn they will be talking about science & weather this year. Matthew practically ran to his room to see his teacher and friends from last year. We also got to meet the 2 new teacher's aides in Matthew's room. I'm so happy that they are still so excited about school!

Michael and I celebrated by going out for breakfast! Yeah! He was supposed to be off thru Thurs., but they sent him to school, so Monday was the only day he had off.
The boys were both very tired last night, but they both enjoyed their 1st day back. Ryan likes his new teacher and played with some of his new classmates yesterday. Matthew jumped right back into the swing of things according to his teacher. He apparently remembers the whole routine at school! He had 2 therapists yesterday afternoon on top of it!
We went to Fuddruckers to eat on Sunday night in celebration of the 1st day of school a day early. 2 guys were there playing the games that are in the back room. The game is the one were you try to get the game to grab a stuffed toy out of the bottom and drop it in the hole (does that make sense???). Well, they won a Dumbo and didn't want it. They gave it to Ryan, who in turn gave it to Matthew. I wish I had my camera at that moment... he was soooo cute with it. Hugging it, giving it's nose a kiss, pretending to feed it french fries. Then he got really still and I noticed he was looking at the tag on Dumbo's butt. He starts signing "movie". I think "huh?" and look at the tag. Printed on the tag is the Disney logo. How smart is my boy? He knows he loves Disney movies!
A cactus, you say??? Well, my new friend, Lee, and I were talking about Australian and American slang the other day. She told of one of their's:
a. cactus> adjective:- something has had it, doesn't work anymore, or someone in a lot of trouble.
So, my Kia was a catus this week - something that doesn't work anymore! Tuesday, the boys and I went to Target. When we came out, the van wouldn't start! We had to go back inside, call Grandma and see if Grandpa could some jump start us. Batteries don't last very long in the desert. Grandpa got it started for us and asked if we were driving straight to WalMart to buy a new one. I decided that we would go home, and wait till Michael came home. The Kia is still under a warranty, so I wanted to see if the battery was covered. We found out that it was. Michael looked at it when he came home and decided to replace part of the connection piece. It worked great on Wed. Then came Thurs. I could tell when I started it to go to school that it was acting weird again. When I started it to go on to Matthew's school, I was worried. And of course, it wouldn't start when we got ready to leave Matthew's school. Parents of one of Matthew's classmates jump started us again. Now, of course, Michael had been off all day on Thurs. and we didn't know to try to take it in. He even drove it that day. He didn't have to leave until 8am on Friday morning, so we figured we'd jump it and take it in 1st thing. It wouldn't start from a jump. Michael was supposed to get off early, so we decide to wait till he gets home. He puts it on a slow trickle charger and leaves. When he gets home, we try again. No dice. We call and find out that we're going to have to call a road side assistance to get it to the dealer (which is covered with the warranty too), but that they can't fit it in today (it's 4pm by then) and they have a full boat on Saturday. We decided we don't want it sitting there waiting all weekend, so we'll take it in on Monday. Then Sat. Michael finds out that he has been scheduled for another class next week, so now instead of having Mon.-Thurs. off, he just has off on Mon. So he went to WalMart last night and bought a new battery. For the low, low price of $35 and 3 days of slight stress... it's fixed!!!
make sure you never mind the fact that you are up to your shoulders cleaning the fish tank and go directly to find out what he's doing. He came out of our bedroom with black marker on his face. I knew that I had a Sharpie next to the computer and went running!!! He had marked some on the computer, drawn lovely pictures on the mousepad, one swipe on my comforter on the bed, and then went on to the bathroom. The toliet seat was worse than the mouse pad. The sink got a little, the glass shower door, the wall, the blinds, the sink cabinet. I was soooo mad and upset! I did not think I was going to get permanent marker off of any of it!!! But good old Ajax came to the rescue. There's only the swipe on the comforter and one mark on the wall that I can't get off yet. I don't have enough nerve to tackle the comforter yet. And the poor mouse pad...
Another nap. This one happened after Michael had made it home. But it was about 5pm again. We tired and tried to get him to wake up - but it wasn't happening. So, of course, he didn't fall asleep until after 11pm! :)
Michael had school at night, so he wasn't able to come with us. We went to Ryan's school 1st at 4pm. He got to meet his new teacher and find his desk. He is very excited to be learning about weather (especially hurricanes!) this year. He has alot of the same kids in his class again, which is nice!
Matthew has the same teacher this year. There are 2 new aides in his room though. He has a lot of the same classmates, too, with a few new ones! He was so excited to be back on the room to play with his friends!
So, what's a mommy to do when it rains some 2.5 inches within an hour and half in the desert? Let her boys play in Lake Adams, and of course, whip out the camera!
Michael was still at school at Sky Harbor. He, of course, rode the Goldwing today! He left at around 4pm and didn't make it home until 5:45 or so. It usually take him 1/2 hour. His shoes are currently making puddles in the laundry room, trying to dry out for tomorrow! He said some people tried to be nice and not soak him, but others just didn't care. It was really sunny out this morning when he left! :)
Journaling reads: You cut out your naps this summer right at the beginning of July. So far, this had worked out because we weren't doing much. But lately, we have slowly added your 4 therapists back into the mix, and you could tell you were getting a little more tired. Then the move to the big boy bed has changed your sleeping habits again. Now with school starting next week, we've wondered what that would do to you. On this afternoon, Mommy put in a video for you (the Wiggles, of course) and went to work on the computer. Ryan came in a little later and told me that you were asleep in the chair. You could see the sleep marks on your forehead when you moved, so you had been asleep for a little bit! So maybe naps are not quite a thing of the past!

All the roll continues! This was the layout from the nap yesterday day! :)
This is the other layout that I did for the Friendship Day Challenge.
Journaling reads: During their bath, Matthew noticed how Ryan was sitting sideways in the tub. He immediately got up and turned to sit just like Ryan. He wants to be just like big brother! Of course, I went running for the camera. Daddy and I are so happy that you guys have fun and love each other. We know that there will be times that you will fight (not you guys!), but we hope that you know that no matter what life brings you, you always have a brother!
Everything from Road Trip Kit by DigiChick Holly McCraig other than the inked edge from Shabby Princess Shabby Smiles Kit.
It actually rained during the day today here. Doesn't do that too often anymore. Cleaned house some today. It was a 2 therapist day today, so not much else happened.
the nap issue is not finished yet!!!
Ryan came and told me that Matthew was asleep in the chair... and sure enough, he was. He didn;t even wake up when I took pics and Ryan covered him with a blanket. He just sat up into this position and went back to sleep. Too sweet! See the sleep marks on his forehead???
He's been so tired still. Going to bed by 8:30 (which is usual) but he's waking up at 6:30 and not going back to sleep. Hopefully we'll get this figured out soon!
Journaling reads: You met when we moved next door to Theo in January of 2002. Ryan had just turned 4 and Theo would turn 4 in March. For the 2 of you, at first, your playtimes were all about the fact that you were playing outside, not about each other. Slowly, as you have grown, so has your friendship. This year you are both going into 2nd grade and will be turning 8 soon. Now it's all about each other. There are secrets that are whispered and things shared between you now. There are sleep-overs and talk about all things boy. You will ride the bus together again and meet up on the playground at school during recess. We hope that your friendship will continue to grow stronger with each year.
Almost everything is by Holly McCraig - Playful freebie, title is from Thank You Kit (recolored). The medallions are by Shabby Princess - Boy Dirt Kit.
I'm on a roll this weekend. My mojo is going strong... I have one more layout in the works, but the journaling isn't working yet, so I'll finish it tomorrow (hopefully). It's one about R&M along the same freindship line. Today is National Friendship Day. So these layouts are for a challenge about it on the DigiChick. I also made this layout into a 5x7 photo for each of the boys (without the journaling). I bought cool $1 frames from Target and Ryan will give one to Theo this week. Also printed out the layout from his mom. I wanted to do one about you, U, but I have no pics in the computer and no scanner. Hopefully soon! So Happy Friendship Day to all of you out there!
Not much else going on. Michael is working late this weekend. He's in school all this week and goes straight into working next weekend. Long week!
The boys start school in 1 week. Meet the Teacher night is this week. This will also be the 1st week that we will have all 4 therapists coming. Should be interesting when school starts. Matthew hasn't taken a nap regularly since June, so we're not sure what's going to happen when we add school to the mix. And 2 of the therapists come on one day, twice. And of course the 2 days are school days. He's gonna be one tired boy, me thinks! Ryan can't wait for school to start! Which is good.
The tempature is breaking - it's still in the 105 range, but it's been raining every other day or so and that helps cool it off at night. We've actually gone outside some. The pool is getting cooler too, which is helping it to balance out again. Yeah! The boys and I actually have gone in for the past 2 days.
Will hopefully post layout tomorrow!
I'm on a scrapbooking roll the past couple days!
I noticed I'd done a few Matthew layouts lately - so here's one of Ryan.
Journaling reads: Mommy and Daddy unexpectedly got 2 tickets to go to a D-Backs game. You got so upset at not being able to go with us! We told you that we would all go soon and Daddy went to the computer to look at dates. You waited till Mommy was out of the room and quietly told Daddy that you wanted to go with just him - no Mommy and Matthew. We know that it’s not always easy to be the big brother. We also know that sometimes Matthew gets alot of the attention. So we decided that it would be your date with Daddy. You were so excited and couldn’t wait for the day to get here. You talked non-stop, wearing Daddy out with all your questions during trhe game. But I think he was glad that you were actually enjoying the game this time, and not wanting to see what else there was to see!

This is a scraplift from the Aug. Garden of Leslie Lightfoot's Fleeting Moments.
Journaling reads: We took you to get your hair cut today. You do not like haircuts - at all! Daddy held you and tried to comfort and distract you, but you were not happy and cried. Your haircut was choppy at best, but at least it's cut. As soon as we got home, Daddy took you in the pool to get the hair off and let you play. He would do anything to bring that smile back to your face!

little boy got a haircut today. He does not like them. Not at all. It's like we are torturing him. Perhaps we are. It's torture for us, I know! So, it's very short and not very even and is still a little long around his ears and neck, but it's cut. :) Can you see the long piece sticking straight up on top???
I was lifted for the 1st time (that I know of) today! A gal over at 2P's lifted my lift of Kate Teague's "Chick" layout. This is such a big compliment to me! I am so proud of that layout and then to have someone else compliment me in that way is just icing on the cake!!! You can see it here. I also have had several comments and e-mails from friends that I haven't talked to or seen in a awhile and new cyber friends that I've never met! The whole internet just makes me feel that much closer to people. As big as it is... it makes the world seem that much smaller. It's kinda cool! :)
is the little boy who woke up at 5:30am today. They started working on the house next door at 6am... so this little boys had been up since then. At 5pm we found him like this... Now at 7pm he just woke up. Do we think he'll sleep tonight? We'll see...
I had been thinking about these new papers from Andie Smith at the DigiChick all night. I even took pics yesterday of the cat thinking I would use them with the papers. While I had the camera out, I took this pic of Matthew pretending to sleep on his block "pillow" during his OT therapy. It obviously won! Today I saw this layout from Kate Teague at the DigiChick and it all fell into place.
